It was good that way.įirestorm 1.0 was written without anyone who knew a shred about game design. They're infinity level quality control, which is pretty amazing.Īlso, having played Uncharted Seas, Dystopian wArs, firestorm 1.0, Firestorm 2.0, and read the rules for the other spartan games. My Resistance had zero flaws across a huge wad of models. I don't understand anyone having any issues with DZC resin. Announcing a really big licensed property so soon after this launched just fits snugly into that stereotype. The company has that reputation whether deserved or not. Would you really expect a company head or employee tobsay otherwise? "Sure, we plan on pretty much switching gears completely to the new game every year while the previous ones languish untill its their time in the new game/edition queue to get our attention again." Looking through my inbox at the last couple of years of Spartan new release emails, it seems pretty clear to me that they have been steadily ramping up both the quantity and quality of their monthly releases, a trend I expect to continue. Putting that aside, Spartan has an excellent track record of supporting its various games IMO the only one they have stopped making new stuff for is Uncharted Seas, but even then all the models for that game are still available from their website (and no doubt you can find some old stock in stores) and the rules can be had for free. I wouldn't worry too much about long-term support for PF.Spartan Neil has said in interviews that the production of the Halo games is somewhat insulated from the rest of the company's lines, so it shouldn't impact things too much. Which is why I am such an ardent fan of it. Strand an enemy unit, then shift the battle-line away from them, and you suddenly gain a huge advantage in a fight. They also tend to treat their transports as precious assets and guard them jealously. A veteran may not always score the most kills, but they will score the mission objectives. You always have to think ahead a couple turns. They will take a number of turns to organize a flanking maneuver, stagger their deployment, or withdraw to a more favorable front. Veteran players on the other hand will not hesitate to use their transports more often and for longer. This leads to dropships lingering "uselessly" behind a battle-line and cluttering up while main line units grind into one another for a couple turns. They see a turn or two without shooting as a waste and hesitate to re-position even when the need presents itself or they are taking part in a losing action. New players are more likely to dig into shoot-outs longer than they should. One of the interesting things about the game is actually the difference between a veteran player and a new player. Doing so only takes a single turn away from firing and completely shifts the ebb and flow of a battle-line. Not including half of that units own movement. Even the slowest aerial transport in the game can (with good positioning) move a unit 12" across the board with a quick touch and go. I thought so too on the re-deployment front when I first started playing the game, but that is not entirely true. In the meantime I've got a fast fun game which doesn't involve 2" per turn moves. Now there is the question about its long term support (especially with Spartan picking up the Halo license), but I'll simply have to deal with that problem when it comes up. Planetfall has it's own little quirks, but so far it's been far more enjoyable for me. In each of the games I played (and in the several others I've watched) you end up with a big scrum in the middle of the board and the dropships tend to stop being a factor after the second turn. The dropship focus is interesting and would work in a longer game, but in a six turn game losing a combat unit for two turns to reposition it is prohibitive. I love the look and production value of the DZC miniatures, but I hate the feel of the game.
